Tobacco Enforcement

Tobacco Control and Enforcement

The Environmental Health Division enforces the New York State Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA) , which prohibits smoking in most public places and workplaces. Staff investigate complaints to ensure compliance with the law.

The Division also enforces the Adolescent Tobacco Use Prevention Act (ATUPA) , which regulates the sale of tobacco products and aims to prevent access by youth and young adults. Compliance checks are conducted to ensure retailers do not sell tobacco products to underage individuals.
