Healthy Homes Program

In January 2024, the Genesee County Health Department received a $1.2 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to address health and safety hazards in residential properties across Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming Counties.

Program Overview

  • Available to eligible homeowners and landlords with qualified tenants
  • Owner-occupied homes require no financial match
  • Landlords must contribute 10% of total project costs
  • Multi-unit properties are eligible, even if not all units qualify
  • Property ownership must be maintained for 5 years after project completion

Contractor Information

Projects are completed by a pre-approved list of local contractors. Contractors interested in participating should contact the Health Department.

How to Apply

Applications are available through the Genesee County Health Department. Program staff will help determine eligibility and guide applicants through the process, including required documentation and forms.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Household meets income eligibility requirements
  • Property contains a health or safety hazard
  • Additional eligibility considerations may apply for vacant units (contact program staff for details)
