Mission

The mission of the Genesee County Sheriff's Office is to provide public service and protection to the citizens of the community. The responsibilities associated with this mission include:

Enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws.
Maintaining peace and order throughout the County.
Protecting property and personal safety.
Providing professional public safety dispatching services and animal control, and assisting citizens in need.
Operating a safe and secure jail by ensuring proper care, custody, treatment, supervision, and discipline for all persons committed to the custody of the Sheriff.
Properly receiving and executing all legal civil processes referred to the Office of the Sheriff.

The members of the Genesee County Sheriff's Office are expected to carry out these responsibilities diligently, courteously, and professionally, and to take pride in the service they provide.

Administration

9-1-1 Emergency Services Dispatch Center

The 9-1-1 Emergency Services Dispatch Center is a specialized section of the Sheriff’s Office that provides centralized public safety communications to participating police, fire and emergency medical services within Genesee County.

Animal Shelter

The Genesee County Animal Shelter is a vital resource for pet adoption, animal care, and community support.

Genesee Justice

Assists crime victims through investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of the offender. Includes assistance with restitution claims, victim impact statements, Crime Victim Board applications, and court accompaniment.

Justice For Children Advocacy Center

The Justice for Children Advocacy Center (JFCAC) offers a unique, comprehensive approach to services for children who have been sexually or physically abused, or who have been a witness to violence.

Sex Offender Registry

The public can access information on Level 3 offenders and certain Level 2 offenders released by the Genesee County Sheriff's Office. Note: Information may not be current or verified. Misuse is a criminal offense.

New York Sheriffs' Victim Hotline

The New York Sheriff's Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) hotline, 1-888-VINE-NY (1-888-846-3469), offers 24-hour statewide assistance and notifications to crime victims.

Local Drug Task Force

The Sheriff's Office and the Local Law Enforcement Drug Task Force work together to combat illegal drug trafficking. Residents can contribute by reporting any suspicions or information.

Operation Safe Child

This program aims to provide parents and children with important child safety information and capture fingerprints, basic biographical information, and photographs of children—information critical to expediting the return of a missing child.

K-9 Services

9-1-1 Address Verification

Aims to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of 9-1-1 address verification and maintenance processes within Genesee County.

Genesee County Threat Assessment Committee (GENTAC)

GENTAC is comprised of representatives from local and federal law enforcement agencies, mental health professionals, social services, substance-use support agencies, schools, emergency management officials, and private entities dedicated to preventing acts of targeted violence in Genesee County.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS/HELP PROGRAM). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
