9-1-1 Address Verification

Policy

It is the policy of Genesee County to verify all new 9-1-1 addresses. The Genesee County Sheriff's Office Communications Division is responsible for collecting and verifying coordinates.

The Genesee County Planning Department is the primary department responsible for maintaining the associated Geographic Information System (GIS) databases. The Genesee County Information Technology Department is responsible for maintaining the software and hardware that support the GIS databases.

Participating municipalities are the primary point of contact for residents and businesses requesting 9-1-1 address verification.

Procedure

1. The participating municipality will forward all new address requests and address-change requests to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office Communications Division for verification.
2. The participating municipality will complete the 9-1-1 Address Verification Form (PDF)(PDF, 124KB) and submit it to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office Communications Division using one of the following methods:

3. The Genesee County Sheriff's Office Communications Division will verify a 9-1-1 address using GPS equipment. If an address is requested, it will be sent to the participating municipality's contact listed on the 9-1-1 Address Verification Form.
4. The Genesee County Planning Department will update the GIS database after receiving notification of changes from the Genesee County Sheriff's Office Communications Division.
5. The Genesee County Sheriff's Office Communications Division will update its Computer-Aided Dispatch software at least once each month to ensure the Address Points Layer is current.
6. GPS or GIS software and hardware issues will be submitted to the Genesee County Information Technology Department through the Help Desk.
