The NYSSA SAFE CHILD Card program is a free public service administered by the New York State Sheriffs' Association, Inc. Using equipment with digital fingerprinting technology and high-resolution photography capabilities, 58 County Sheriffs and other law enforcement agencies can produce a SAFE CHILD Card for parents or guardians.
The card contains a child's name, biographical information—including date of birth, gender, height, weight, hair color, eye color and other identifying information—and fingerprint images of both index fingers. The card can be created in less than two minutes and carried in a wallet or purse.
The program provides parents and children with important safety information and captures children's fingerprints, basic biographical information and photographs. This information can be critical to expediting the return of a missing child.
The NYSSA SAFE CHILD Card allows parents to quickly provide important details to law enforcement agencies investigating a child's disappearance. When used with the New York State AMBER Alert and Missing Child Alert programs, the card allows essential information to be distributed statewide, if necessary, within minutes and may increase the possibility of bringing a missing child home.
