What Is Household Hazardous Waste?

Household hazardous waste is any waste produced in the home that is flammable, toxic, corrosive, or reactive. It includes certain paint products, pesticides and herbicides, hobby chemicals, automotive fluids, and cleaning products.

Who Can Participate?

Any resident of Genesee, Livingston, or Wyoming Counties.

How Can I Participate?

Materials are accepted by appointment at GLOW’s annual collections. The 2025 collection was held in Batavia. Contact the GLOW office for copies of the final reports for those collections. The 2026 collection will be held in Livingston County, with dates to be determined.

Residents without internet access are encouraged to call (585) 815-7906 or (585) 344-2580 extension 5463 with questions regarding Household Hazardous Waste or GLOW collection events.

Acceptable Materials

  • Propane canisters and tanks
  • Auto and marine batteries
  • Oil filters and antifreeze
  • Miscellaneous vehicle fluids
  • Pesticides and insecticides
  • Household cleaning products
  • Polish and waxes
  • Solvents and corrosives
  • Resins and adhesives
  • Pool and photo chemicals
  • Spray paint
  • Driveway sealer
  • Fluorescent light bulbs and tubes
  • Full or partially full aerosol cans
  • Tires — $5.00 each for passenger or light truck tires and $10.00 each for truck tires

Unacceptable Materials

  • Motor oil
  • Foam insulation tanks (commonly known as froth packs)
  • Explosives and ammunition
  • PCBs and asbestos
  • Infectious or biological waste
  • Pathogenic waste
  • Pressure-sensitive reactive material
  • Needles and syringes
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Tractor tires
  • Oil or latex paint
