Mission

The Board of Elections has as its goal the protection of the voting public in every aspect of their participation in the electoral process — from registration, to involvement as candidates, if desired, to the final recording of votes. The entire process involves maintaining all records accurately and completely, explaining the intricacies of the caucus and petition processes, and outlining campaign finance responsibilities.

Department Description

The Constitution of the State of New York provides for the appointment of bipartisan Boards of Elections whose responsibilities include registering voters, maintaining voter registration records, conducting elections, and administering Election Law in a fair and honest manner.

Absentee and Accessible Voting Information

During the canvassing process, the voter’s County Board of Elections determines whether the voter’s absentee ballot has already been counted. If the absentee ballot was counted, the affidavit ballot will be set aside and not counted. If the absentee ballot has not arrived and been counted, the voter’s affidavit ballot will be counted. The tracking tool allows voters to see whether their absentee or affidavit ballot was counted for that election.

Voters using the accessible absentee ballot system who need printing services to print their ballot may access public printing resources, including libraries, print stores, shipping stores, and office supply stores. Voters should contact local printing resources for details on available services.

In-person voting using an accessible Ballot Marking Device (BMD) during early voting or on Election Day remains available to voters with a disability who do not wish to vote by absentee ballot using the accessible absentee ballot system.
