Second Application Round for Vacant Rental Program Opens

Genesee County is opening a second application round for the Vacant Rental Program, a New York State-funded initiative that supports the rehabilitation of vacant residential units and the conversion of vacant spaces into safe, quality and affordable long-term rental housing.

The County recommended 12 projects totaling 17 units during the program’s first application round. The second round provides additional eligible property owners with an opportunity to apply for the remaining available program funding.

Informational Session

An informational session for interested property owners and applicants will be held:

6 to 8 p.m.

The session will provide an overview of the program, eligible properties and improvements, funding requirements and the application process.

About the Program

The Vacant Rental Program is funded by New York State Homes and Community Renewal. Genesee County serves as the Local Program Administrator, with grant administration and program delivery support provided by G&G Municipal Consulting and Grant Writing.

Through the program, eligible property owners may receive funding to:

  • Return vacant or unmarketable properties to safe occupancy
  • Address building and property code violations
  • Support neighborhood revitalization
  • Expand rental housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income households

Application Review

The program is not first-come, first-served. Eligible applications will be evaluated according to established scoring criteria, including:

  • Property need
  • Project feasibility
  • Property owner track record
  • Anticipated community impact

Projects not initially selected for funding may be placed on a waitlist.
