Route 262 Closed in Byron
Route 262 is closed between Route 19 and Route 237 after a recently applied chip seal treatment failed to adhere properly to the roadway.
The condition has caused vehicles to become stuck and road material to adhere to tires and vehicles. Motorists should avoid the area and use an alternate route until further notice.
The contractor responsible for applying the treatment is responding and will work with the County Department of Public Works to assess the roadway and determine the necessary corrective action.
Byron-Bergen School Transportation and Parent Pickup
Parent pickup will take place at the normal time, although delays are expected.
Authorized personnel will be stationed in the area to direct traffic and safely guide families through the pickup process. Families should follow all instructions provided by personnel at the scene.
Families must approach eastbound on Townline Road (Route 262) and enter West Bergen Road from the north. After pickup, vehicles must travel north on West Bergen Road and continue eastbound on Townline Road.
School buses will provide afternoon transportation, but delays are expected because buses must use longer alternate routes. Elementary families will be notified when buses leave for drop-offs.
All after-school activities are canceled, including practices, games and open swim.
Additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
