The Genesee County Office for the Aging has been awarded a three-year AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP grant totaling $422,571 to support volunteer-led programs for older adults throughout Genesee County.
The County will receive $140,857 annually for three years to launch the Healthy Futures initiative. Through the program, more than 200 volunteers will help provide transportation, wellness programming, nutritional support, companionship and other services that help older adults remain healthy, active and independent.
“This grant allows us to engage over 200 passionate volunteers to directly combat social isolation and health vulnerabilities among older adults,” said Jessica Riley, Office for the Aging Director. “We are honored to partner with AmeriCorps to provide an AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program, allowing us to expand our reach, enhance independent living and foster deep community connections dedicated to the County’s older population.”
Over the three-year grant period, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers will support several areas of service, including:
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP is a national volunteer program for adults ages 55 and older. The program connects volunteers with opportunities to use their experience and skills to address local community needs.
