The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and Batavia Police Department are participating in a coordinated effort with the STOP-DWI program to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.
Statewide STOP-DWI enforcement efforts are now in effect and will continue through Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The St. Patrick’s Day holiday period is known as a particularly dangerous time for impaired driving due to the number of celebrations and increased traffic on the roads.
During this campaign, New York State Police, County Sheriff’s Offices, and municipal law enforcement agencies across the state will increase enforcement efforts to help reduce alcohol-related injuries and fatalities.
Although New York has made significant progress in reducing alcohol- and drug-related traffic deaths, too many lives are still lost in crashes caused by impaired drivers. Residents are reminded to make a plan for a safe ride home before celebrating.
