Genesee County Career Center: Workforce Update

Genesee County currently has 596 (+11) job openings listed with the NYS Department of Labor. The occupational breakout is: Agriculture 33 (+1), Manufacturing 60 (+6), Healthcare 147 (+14), Retail 58 (-1), Trades 4 (-4), and Other 294 (-5).
December Highlights from the Career Center: We welcomed 468 visitors to the Career Center, bringing our 2025 total to 6,015, and we fielded 227 reception calls during the month (averaging 168 per month for the year). We received and are processing 11 WIOA Training applications for the month. Funding was approved for 10 individuals including: a youth incentive for earning a GED, supportive services, 1 CMA, 2 CDL-A, 2 work experiences, 1 Pharmacy Tech, 1 LPN, and a Security Guard. We enrolled 0 new youth into the WIOA Young Adult Program this month due to missed appointments; we have 8 youth pending intakes. We hosted Lifetime Assistance, NYS DOCCS, Job Corps, ACCES VR, AEOC, and Healthcare Navigators on-site. Workshops included: a 4-part Financial Literacy series, Job Readiness Training, AEOC and SUNY Reconnect, and DOL-led sessions on Resume Ready and Interview Skills. Additional workshops are available virtually. Outreach and events included participation in the GLOW WDB Annual Awards breakfast highlighting our local business of the year: Machpelah Cemetery, and our adult and youth participants of the year; Jordan Richardson and Cameron Stefani. We met with HCR Healthcare for a Customized Training and OJT Overview and continued our weekly newsletter. Our next Job Fair is scheduled for January 20th from 10:00 AM to Noon.

The Unemployment Statistics for September were released on 12/10/25. The New York State rate is 4.7% (0), the Finger Lakes Region is 3.51% (-.15), the GLOW Region is 3.43% (+.275), and Genesee County is 3.2% (-.5). The County has 29,200 employed individuals (-100 change) and 1,000 unemployed individuals (+200 change) according to the NYS Department of Labor. Per the New York State Department of Labor (NYS DOL) website, they will soon release unemployment data for October and November 2025. However, local area unemployment rate data for October 2025 will not be published due to the federal government shutdown. Jobs data for October 2025 will be included in the November 2025 press release, which will be announced soon.
The lowest unemployment rates in New York this month are Saratoga and Wyoming County, each with a rate of 3.1%.
