This program allows eligible approved titles to be filled through non-competitive appointments, meaning qualified candidates may be hired without first taking a civil service examination. Applicants must still meet the minimum qualifications and any other requirements associated with the position.
The program has been very successful for Genesee County and its municipalities, helping connect qualified candidates with important public service positions while supporting local workforce needs and the continued delivery of essential services.
Through June 30, 2028, candidates hired for approved NY HELPS positions will not be required to undergo civil service testing before appointment. This simplified process provides additional opportunities for job seekers interested in serving their communities through local government employment.
