Genesee County Career Center: Workforce Update

Genesee County currently has 904 (+308) job openings listed with the NYS Department of Labor. The occupational breakout is: Agriculture 324 (+291), Manufacturing 77 (+17), Healthcare 92 (-55), Retail 106 (+48), Trades 4 (0), and Other 301 (+7).

January Highlights from the Career Center: We welcomed 589 visitors to the Career Center and fielded 304 reception calls during the month. We received and are processing 14 WIOA Training applications. Funding was approved for 6 individuals, including supportive services, 1 Phlebotomy/EKG Technician, 2 CDL-A, 1 work experience, and 1 welding. We enrolled 3 new youth into the WIOA Young Adult Program this month, with 6 youth pending intakes. Employer and partner engagement included hosting Job Corps, ACCES VR, AEOC, and Healthcare Navigators on-site. Workshops included a 4-part Financial Literacy series, Job Readiness Training, AEOC and SUNY Reconnect, Small Business Development Center sessions, and DOL-led workshops on Career Exploration and Interview Skills. Additional workshops are available virtually. Outreach and events included a presentation at Batavia High School, participation in Interagency Spotlight, and continuation of our weekly newsletter. Our next Job Fair is scheduled for February 10th from 10:00 AM to Noon.

The Unemployment Statistics for December were released on 1/27/26. The New York State rate is 4.4% (-0.3), the Finger Lakes Region is 3.84% (+0.33), the GLOW Region is 4.0% (+0.57), and Genesee County is 3.5% (+0.3). The County has 28,600 employed individuals (-600 change) and 1,100 unemployed individuals (+100 change) according to the NYS Department of Labor. The lowest unemployment rate in New York State this month is Putnam County at 2.8%.
