Environmental Science Summer Camp is a week-long day camp for students entering 7th–10th grades to explore environmental science careers and activities. Campers meet with local environmental professionals who lead hands-on activities that relate to their day-to-day work as environmental scientists. Activities include stream studies, wildlife surveys, field trips to area parks, wilderness survival skills, fishing, kayaking, and more!

A camp scholarship may be available to cover the Environmental Science Summer Camp fee for a student in need. If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, before registering for camp, please email Claudia Nusstein, Conservation Education Program Coordinator at Claudia.Nusstein@geneseeny.gov.  The email subject line should be Environmental Science Summer Camp Scholarship_ Students Name. Please include in the email: 

  • Camper Name
  • Camper Grade
  • Camper School 
  • 2 - 3 Sentences describing why the camper would benefit from the experience at Environmental Science Summer Camp

Emails must be received by Friday, May 1st to be considered for the scholarship.

Registration is available online or with a paper form. Registration fee is $95 per camper. Registration forms and payment must be received by June 15, 2026.

Important: Camper Health Forms are required and must be submitted by the first day of camp. Forms will be sent after registration and must be signed by your child’s physician. Please allow at least two weeks for your physician to complete the forms. Register early to avoid delays!

What to Bring to Environmental Science Summer Camp

The following items are recommended each day:

  • Lunch, snacks, and drinks
  • Weather-appropriate clothing, including sturdy, closed-toe shoes
  • Raincoat or hat (umbrellas not recommended)
  • Refillable water bottle labeled with camper’s name
  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Sunscreen and insect repellent
  • Small backpack
  • Chest waders for Monday (provided if needed)

Camp Hard Hat

Camp Hard Hat is a week-long day camp that gives students ages 12–15 the opportunity to participate in a community-based construction project. Now in its tenth year, the camp has had a tremendous impact on the building trades industry and serves as a recruitment tool to inspire youth to pursue careers in skilled trades.

Camp Hard Hat is presented by Genesee Valley BOCES and the Genesee County Business Education Alliance.
