Becoming a firefighter or emergency medical responder is a way to serve your community when help is needed most. People volunteer for many reasons, but the goal is the same: protecting lives, property and neighbors throughout Genesee County.

Why Volunteer?

• Serve your community: Firefighters and emergency medical personnel help protect lives and property and support residents during emergencies.
• Build emergency service skills: Many volunteers are inspired by family, mentors or a long-standing interest in firefighting, rescue or emergency medical services.
• Take on new challenges: No two calls are the same. Fires, medical emergencies and other incidents require responders to think, train and work under changing conditions.
• Be part of a team: Emergency responders depend on one another, building trust, teamwork and strong connections with fellow members.
• Stay active: Firefighting and emergency response can require strength, stamina and physical readiness.
• Support prevention and education: Local departments also participate in fire prevention, safety education and community outreach.
