Genesee County HIICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling Assistance Program)/SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) can assist Genesee County residents with:

  • Medicare 101 classes (call office for dates, or check out our events calendar)
  • Information on how to apply for Medicare
  • Medicare Savings Program (get Part B money back into your Social Security check if income qualified)
  • Extra Help (program through Social Security that assists with prescription costs, if income/asset qualified)
  • Medicare Part D prescription-drug coverage/assistance with pharmacy issues
  • EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage) Assistance Program through New York State
  • Medicare Supplement Plans/Medigap Coverage
  • Medicare Advantage Plans
  • Coverage information
  • Coordination with other health insurance (employer/retiree or Medicaid)
  • Assistance with paperwork and health insurance problems
  • Medicare fraud, abuse detection, and reporting

NYS-certified counselors will assist you with narrowing down your decisions and understanding coverage options.  We are not sales agents or brokers.  Counselors provide free, unbiased, confidential assistance with your health care questions, concerns, and Medicare coverage choices.
