The Genesee County Job Development Bureau Work Experience Program provides short-term, structured employment opportunities at public, private and nonprofit worksites. A typical work experience lasts between 100 and 200 hours.
Participants may work in a variety of settings, and all applicable labor laws and employment restrictions remain in effect throughout the program.
Each participant is assigned an Employment & Training Counselor who serves as a liaison between the participant and worksite. The counselor may visit the worksite as needed and will check on the participant's progress and performance.
The Work Experience Program is designed to help individuals with limited work history or industry experience gain and practice meaningful workplace skills that can lead to employment.
The Genesee County Job Development Bureau agrees to pay the participant's wages and workers' compensation during the work experience.
The business or worksite host agrees to provide a temporary job opportunity and appropriate supervision. This includes communicating clear job expectations and providing performance feedback to both the participant and assigned counselor.
