The 60's and Early 70's in Genesee County

Genesee County History: 1960-1974

The Genesee County History Department created a research collection documenting local events and major social changes from January 1, 1960, through December 31, 1974.

The Genesee County Historians Association funded a 2011-2012 AmeriCorps member position to support the project. AmeriCorps member Ruth Koch worked with Genesee County History Department volunteers to create an index of local articles from the Batavia Daily Newspaper.

The collection documents more than a decade of change, including reactions to the assassinations of national leaders, space exploration and civil defense. Local topics include the development of Genesee Community College, Batavia's urban renewal efforts and the Attica State Prison riot.

The completed project consists of nine binders with a subject index, created with the support of AmeriCorps, Ruth Koch and History Department volunteers.
